Default Church Anniversary

Last Sunday we celebrated the 217th Anniversary of our church. It was a wonderful service, led by one of our previous ministers, and was then followed by a church lunch together. We were able to reflect upon God's faithfulness in preserving the fellowship of believers in this place over such a long period of time.

The building we meet in dates only from 1960, but the church has been in existence in one form or another since 1797.

Does anyone else attend a church with a long or interesting history?

The church we've been attending since November has a long history that I keep learning more and more about. I don't know exactly when it was started, but I'm pretty sure it was at least early 1900s. I will have to ask someone now because I'm curious.

Today we have celebrated our 219th Anniversary in our church. We were joined in the service by our link-missionaries who serve with the Baptist Missionary Society in Nepal, but are over in the UK for a break at present. They were able to tell us about their life in Nepal and show a video they had made. They survived the Nepal earthquakes a couple of years ago, and told us that their eldest daughter had made a commitment to Our Lord while sheltering under the bed, waiting for the roof to fall in! However, her commitment was serious and real, and she was baptised earlier this year.

The banner which we made in 1997 for our 200th Anniversary, and which still hangs in our church.

So, today we have celebrated our 220th Church Anniversary. We had an uplifting Service this morning, followed by a church lunch in the Church Hall.

One rather sad note was that just a few days ago, our oldest Church Member passed away at the age of 95. Gwen was "ever present", and on a day like this she would not only have been in the Service worshipping with us, but afterwards would have been busy in the kitchen organising the meal and feeding us. Her association with the church went back to the 1920's, and it was her life. God's servants are missed when they are no longer with us, but we reverence the memories, and give God thanks.

The Church Lunch in full swing today.
