A view from the Top
Today, Rita and I have been to the top of "The Shard", in London. The tickets for this visit were a gift from our two children. The Shard is the tallest building in Western Europe, and is one of London's newer tourist attractions.
You go up in the lift (elevator) to the 68th floor where the first viewing platform is situated, and then if you are so inclined you can walk up a flight of stairs to the 72nd floor where there is a second, and this time open-air viewing platform.
The weather was bright and sunny today but a little hazy, so long distance views were not clear, but it is said that on the clearest days you can see for 40 miles.
(1) Tower Bridge with the Tower of London on the left and City Hall, HQ of the Mayor of London, the circular building on the right........(2) London Bridge and St Paul's Cathedral..........(3 )the cruiser HMS Belfast, last surviving big ship from WW11, now a tourist attraction on the River Thames..........(4) Not a good view if you suffer from vertigo!.........(5)The Shard from ground level (sorry the picture is sideways!).
I'm Brian, Husband of Rita, Dad to Jonathan and Jennifer, and Granddad to Jessica and Grace.
