My dad. He was diagnosed as a sociopath or psychopath. Not sure which one not that it really matters.

It was hard. He did things that you would only read about or see in a twisted book or movie

Mine aren't (though I used to think they were) but, I'll tell you I had a job as a Maintenance guy in a nursing home for a couple years and there were several people in there with severe dementia, and I can't imagine having to go through that with my parents, I hope it that never happens.

My mother is bipolar/schizo.. Words cannot describe my heart break.

My father really did himself in by doing too much coke. He had a stroke and never recovered.

That is so awful. I had a friend who was severely mentally ill. I really tried to extend a hand to her but ended up have to draw some very clear boundaries - it was painful even just at that level of relationship...I cant imagine if it was a parent or child.

My father suffers from clinical depression, alcoholism, and alzheimer's.

My mother, I think she is metally ill sometimes, but nothing that couldn't be healed by God if she wanted it. I only say it that way because I suffer from mood disorders and I have really worked on them and I think she could over come if she even could admit there was a problem and try to work on it.

Default Mentally ill parents

My mother is a schzioprenic ... as was my late sister and three of my Aunties. Epilepsy also runs in the family.

It has been very hard. I thank God that medication keeps my mum stable....and my aunties have survived suicide attempts.

I have suffered with an eating disorder.....anorexia/bulimia. This is very mentally and physically traumatic...to everyone concerned.

Now I am totally better. It is sad that some people still have to live with mental illness ...like my mum.

I do feel for you that have had to deal with this. There seems to be nothing more damaging than mental illness in a family. My Mom had bouts of depression a few times in her life and it does spill over into the rest of the family.

How we survived it all, I can't tell you but we somehow managed to slog our way through it.
