Do you get bugs in your house and you can't work out where they come from? At our new house we keep getting tiny black bugs in the bath - a few appear in the bucket in the laundry as well. The bathroom window rarely even gets opened this time of year. They seem to like the water so today I've wiped the bath out so there's not much water and I'll see if there are fewer bugs tonight. At our old place we used to get crickets in the bath sometimes - we were mystified about where they came from - maybe up the little drain in the floor that went out to the backyard, then they must have jumped into the bath, although some would head down the hall. I used to often catch the crickets and take them outside, but I'm quite happy to wash the little black bugs down the drain!

Sorry to hear ! I have no advice :(

Could they be crawling up a pipe from outside that connects to the toliet or bath pipes .....

That's my first thought as well. I hope you are able to figure it out and stop them.

Thanks - I'm not sure about the pipes. Wiping the bathtub out definitely reduced the bugs. There were about 20 in the laundry bucket today - the little critters jump around when you disturb them! Mind you, at our previous house before the last one we used to get huge cockroaches that came up from under the wood floor - so I suppose our bugs are gradually getting smaller! :D

Ugh ! I hope you can sort it out and get rid of them .

i did a bit of research and found out that the little black bugs are drain flies. do they have littel wings on them? or are they a beetle-like looking bug?

drain flies are attracted to the "gunk" in your drain. they come in from the outside and feast on it! so you have to clean your drain with an enzymatic drain cleaner. one article says to pour the cleaner in, wait the alotted time, then let the water run down the drain for several minutes to get all the cleaner out. then plunge the drain with a plunger for several minutes to make sure all the gunk gets out. then boil a pot of water and pour that down the drain.

you may have to do this a couple of times before the critters are gone.
and to keep them away, clean your drains once a month.

Thank you for that! I'm not sure if they have wings - they're pretty small and hard to see! I don't think they're like beetles. I might try the drain cleaner thing.

if they are not like beetles, they are probably drain flies.
i would at least try their suggestions. if that doesn't work, you might want to talk to an expert pest control guy!

Yes, it's probably worth a try. They are like little flies. The only thing is I wouldn't think there'd be much gunk in the drain as the house has only been lived in for a few months. My feeling is they're little flies which are common around here, like water, get in somehow and get into the water in the bathtub and bucket.
