hi we are new to the forums and home schooling....we wanted to ask what discipline options we might use for our 8 and 10 yr olds when home schooling if required...they are testing the boundries in the home school room at this time and warning them of grounding and extra home work ect isnt working .....we do also take privilages but it donst bother them. could we try some kind of time outs in the school room ?...or some kind of writing discipline options....your imput whould help us if possible please?

Welcome :wavey:
I may be wrong but i would think ten and eight are a little old for time outs .

You could do
Extra chores
sending them to their room
Early bedtime
Taken away something ie .tv time , birthday party ,DS
writing lines is good
Spanking

All the above work with my kids and my daughter is seven and hates early bedtime (if she acts up i send her to bed an hour earlier )

thanks for your reply......lines are something we are considering and we will have to decide how many at there ages...our son 10 and daughter eight have been warned of smacking and i have to admit the threat makes them behave for a while.....i know it varies from country to county as to that option so hoping we can find a coomon ground of the way to apply that at there ages along with writing lines....they are good most of the time but they are finding that our warnings are not carried through at this time and i know thats our fault

It is hard .Lines can work well as it is borning for them .I know what you mean about spanking ,I do spank quite a bit as at the moment it is effective but i always am calm and explain why they are being spanked .

are yours the same sort of age as ours lauren? in the schooling room i suppose smacking on hands or legs is the most common in the uk if thats the case as you say we will have to expain to them why it has to be done with love and not in anger..its just i know discipline can vary depending on where you live so we will try to sort out the best options for them now.

My eldest is seven and my other two are four and one .Once you explain why you have to do it and then give them their swats ,well thats what i do .
Yes we live in Ireland so the laws on smacking exist but it is not banned but their are guidlines (no implements and only leave a red tempory mark )so you have to be careful .
How long have you been home schooling ?
